That's it for the commentary but I'll be back with more games during the week and there will be plenty of reaction from this game, and all the other major football talking points, on the site over the coming hours.
Thanks for joining me and see you soon!
Well that's a good start to the preseason campaign for Liverpool, and they'll lift the Shankly Shield as a result.
Philippe Coutinho scored a penalty early on before Jordon Ibe cut in to make it 2-0 before the break. After a whole host of changes, goals in quick succession from Raheem Sterling and Iago Aspas, on his debut, sealed an impressive and entertaining victory for the Reds.
They'll head off to their summer tour of Australia and Thailand in good spirits after their first run out of the campaign, with all four new signings having featured in a Liverpool shirt for the first time today.
Full time at Deepdale
Preston 0 Liverpool 4
...it's a header down from Cansdell-Sherrif, but it bounces onto the floor and is easy for Ward to take.
89'—Final seconds now, and Holmes wins a free kick off Skrtel. Last chance for an attack and a consolation goal for the home team...
88'—Luis Alberto tries to release Sterling again with a through pass, but the keeper is out quickly to clear this time. Looks like we'll finish up 4-0 now, not likely to be any injury time.
86'—Downing switches play cleverly to Luis Alberto who has loads of room, but his shot is very tame and straight at the keeper. Easy save.
85'—Final five minutes of the game. 21,000 crowd today, that's more than double the Preston average for last season.
82'—Not seen too much of Luis Alberto in a deeper role today, but he plays a good pass now down the left for Johnson to run onto.
80'—Nice try from Sterling but gets the execution wrong. He lets the ball roll across himself and hits a left-footed volley toward goal, but it's just too far away from his body and screws his shot well wide.
Liverpool sub: Martin Kelly on for Jack Robinson
Big moment for Kelly who marks his return from injury.
79'—Pacheco runs onto the ball and attempts a half-volley which flies just past the far post. We head into the final 10 minutes of the game.
Liverpool sub: Mignolet off, Danny Ward comes on. Applause for both Reds' keepers from the crowd.
Aspas cuts in off the right edge of the box and rockets a real whipped effort past the keeper and into the roof of the net. Goalkeeper perhaps overestimated that the shot would be curled into the far corner there, seemed to dive too far to his right. 4-0 now.
74'—GOAL! 4-0 to Liverpool and Iago Aspas has a debut goal!
73'—Downing makes a dart down the right and wins the Reds a corner. Chance for a fourth for the Reds...but Aspas is denied by the keeper after performing a nice little nutmeg on the edge of the box.
71'—Downing sees his shot deflected before the keeper gets down to make the save. Was going wide after the rebound so he's prevented a corner.
69'—We're having a Preston change. Ryan Croasdale is coming on. A Preston youngster trying to make his way as a senior.
67'—We expect to see Martin Kelly make his return from a long-term ACL injury at some point today, but it might only be a few minutes at the end. In any case it will be a good milestone for the defender to reach after coming back from the lay off.
Great run from Sterling. He's come off the left flank to run infield from the halfway line and Aspas splits Preston's high line with a through ball. Nobody's catching Sterling of course and he drops a shoulder, rounds the keeper and slots home for the third. Really fine movement from the youngster.
64'—GOAL! 3-0 Liverpool. Aspas to Sterling and he races through, rounds the keeper and scores.
62'—Into the final half hour now of this first preseason game and Liverpool still lead 2-0 courtesy of first half goals from Coutinho and Ibe.
60'—Aspas moves the ball to Sterling and the two are showing quick signs of linking up well. Always nice to see with new faces. Johnson has a run at the defence and then Pacheco does the same, but just not enough room for either player to have a shot.
57'—Sterling does really well to get past his man and curl in a shot from the left channel again, and Stuckmann makes a good save to his left.
54'—Dani Pacheco has a strike from range but the keeper is down to save easily enough. How long does the young Spaniard have left at Liverpool? He was on loan at Huesca last season, but is surely way down the order now after recent arrivals.
52'—Skrtel comes running in at the far post off a corner and is quite blatantly thrown through the air by the defender. No penalty, must be the preseason nature of the game. Poor reffing.
