Free agent center/power forward Brandan Wright said he is likely to re-sign with the Mavericks. “Dallas is the clear-cut leader,” Wright told ESPNDallas.com via text message Wednesday. Wright said he and his agent Jim Tanner are in discussions with the Mavericks and anticipate a deal to get done “sooner or later.” The Mavs own Wright's Early Bird rights, meaning that they can exceed the salary cap to re-sign him to a multiyear contract that pays him up to 104.5 percent of the average NBA player salary of more than $5 million. As a result, it makes sense for the Mavs to sign a starting center before finalizing a deal with Wright.
