Steven Finn celebrates the wicket of Ed Cowan
The Ashes has begun, and boy, what a start. Fourteen wickets and 290 runs, the crowd at Trent Bridge may have been sold eight overs short, but they certainly got their money's worth on Day 1.
England will have been disappointed with the first innings effort of 215, especially having won the toss, and although Peter Siddle (5-50) bowled well, there were some horror shots played by England.
However, the match was turned on its head by the new ball spell from Steven Finn and James Anderson, who combined to take four top order wickets. Although Steven Smith and Phil Hughes have offered some resistance, England will fancy their chances of a first innings lead that seemed very unlikely when Australian began their innings.
