The ball doesn't lie, and neither can we—we're excited that Rasheed Wallace is back in our lives.

Per Vincent Goodwill of the Detroit News, Wallace will be joining the Detroit Pistons' coaching staff as an assistant. His primary job will be to work with budding bigs Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond.

Wallace wasted no time reporting for duty, making a cameo at Detroit's summer league game against the Boston Celtics in Orlando.

Sporting a Pistons shirt and Notre Dame hat, he was ready to get involved.

Naturally, Wallace joined the party like only he knows how to—by screaming his catchphrase at unsuspecting referees.

Unhappy with the previous call, Sheed bellowed "Ball don't lie!" after Boston's Courtney Fells missed a free throw.

It was a vintage Sheed moment, imparting his volatile wisdom on the game's referees, for a call that didn't really matter. It's also one he claimed didn't happen.

Afterward, 'Sheed denied uttering those words, according to Jay King of

“Oh, you’re going to always hear that,” he said. “That’s a national thing. I ain’t even gotta say it. I didn’t say it, everybody else did.”

Forgive us if we don't believe you.

For the better part of two decades, we watched and listened for the vocally-colorful Wallace to yell those three words. Sometimes, they would go unpunished. At other times, he'd be handed a technical and/or be escorted toward the locker room.

Whatever the outcome, arenas just don't have the same ambiance if the prospect of bearing witness to his triple-worded slogan isn't there. We lamented in the loss of "ball don't lie" during his two-year hiatus from the NBA and were poised to experience a similar feeling of sorrow after his time with the New York Knicks came to end.

Never fear, though, because the ball-don't-lie man has found his way home, and he'll be taking his bark and bite to a sideline near you soon enough.
