WWE Money in the Bank 2013 Results: John Cena Retains WWE Title vs. Mark Henry
In one of the most anticipated matches of the night, WWE champion John Cena beat Mark Henry to retain the title at the 2013 edition of the Money in the Bank.
Despite Henry’s loss, he looked incredibly strong throughout the buildup to this event and during the bout. While Cena may have walked away with the WWE Championship, it’s Henry that was Sunday’s biggest winner.
Was John Cena retaining the belt the smart booking?
Cena looked incredibly strong once again, and a victory over the top heel in the company right now is an even bigger feather in his cap. For those fans that don’t like the biggest star in the WWE, don’t expect an end to his reign anytime soon unless a superstar cashes the Money in the Bank briefcase in and steals the strap.
After beating The Rock at WrestleMania, beating Ryback and disposing of Henry, it’s clear that the plan is for Cena to remain the top dog throughout the summer.
Now that Cena has beaten Henry, it’s obvious this was just a holdover feud that the WWE never had any intention of following through with. Hopefully Henry’s excellent work will force the WWE’s hand and he will get another shot at SummerSlam.
Of all the possible contenders, Henry deserves it most.
While Cena walks away the winner in this feud on paper, the promos that Henry has cut leading up to this match ensure he is the real winner. His character is the most interesting it has ever been, and Henry has proven he is the WWE’s top heel right now.
Many fans do not like Henry’s in-ring style, but with the caliber of promos he is cutting and the fear he has instilled in Cena throughout this build will guarantee that his next feud is something special.
Another chapter with Cena at SummerSlam shouldn’t be out of the question.
