MMA: Bellator Title Challenger Maiquel Falcao Involved in Crazy Brawl in Brazil
Apparently, a gas station isn't the best place to pick up women while in Brazil.
Maiquel Falcao found that out the hard way after being involved in a crazy brawl.
Band Santa Catarina (h/t Zane Simon of Bloody Elbow) released on the video, which shows former UFC fighter and current Bellator middleweight Falcao, along with a friend, involved in a vicious brawl at a gas station.
Falcao approaches a young woman while waiting in line to check out, but when she isn't interested, he hits her with his arm. Two men who were apparently associated with the woman proceed to get in Falcao and his associate's face about the incident.
One of the men takes a swipe at Falcao, which prompts a retaliation from the man next to the Bellator fighter.
Although the two groups are initially separated inside, the violence heads outside the actual store, where a man uses a weapon to attack a member of Falcao's group, knocking him out cold.
The victim was featherweight Kaue Mena.
After being knocked unconscious by the assailant, Mena is repeatedly punched and kicked in the face. The man is pulled off Mena, but he returns to kick the still-unconscious fighter in the head some more.
Bloody Elbow is reporting that Mena currently in serious condition in the intensive care unit at the Hospital do Coracao and that no arrests have currently been made.
Falcao last competed for Bellator in February, when he was unsuccessful in attempting to capture Bellator gold. The Brazilian was KO'd in the second round by Bellator's middleweight champ, Alexander Shlemenko.
For a promotion that's attempting to carve a niche in the MMA market outside the UFC, an incident like this with one of their top contenders is the last thing Bellator needs.
