Everyone is looking for this year’s Tampa Bay Rays or the 2007 version of the Colorado Rockies. Well, I’m here to dash the hopes of those fans from seven different teams.

Here are the top seven teams that won’t make the playoffs. For various reasons, these teams will fail to reach October, so don’t expect these teams won't be making surprise runs and become America's playoff darlings.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Sorry to those in the steel city, but the Pirates won’t make the playoffs and are more then likely going to have the dubious distinction of 17 losing seasons. Actually, perhaps this might be the year they break that streak, but definitely no playoffs.

Milwaukee Brewers

Last year was special for Brewer fans because it was the first time they had been to the playoffs since 1982.

Unfortunately, no Sabathia or Sheets equals no playoffs. While they do have the hitting lineup to contend, they lack the starting pitching. Braden Looper, Jeff Suppan and Dave Bush aren’t names that strike fear into me. While they have a potential ace in Yovani Gallardo, it won’t be enough to get them back to October.

New York Mets

Despite beefing up their bullpen, which has been their downfall the past two seasons, the Mets still lack good starting pitching. If they could clone Johan Santana four time, they would do it in a New York minute.

However, the offense will be their downfall eventual downfall. Carlos Beltran and Delgado aren’t getting any younger.

Florida Marlins

They started off hot but have come back down to earth since the beginning of the season.

There other are other teams in the NL East that are too strong to allow the Marlins to take this division or the Wild Card for that matter.

They may play the role of spoiler yet again; they are, however, a few pieces short of a contender. Interestingly enough though, it has been six years since they won their last World Series in 2003 and it was six years between then and their first world title in 1997.

Tampa Bay Rays

They were the darlings of American League last year after they came out of nowhere to win the American League Pennant, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say they won’t make the playoffs simply because everyone has been made aware of them after last season.

On top of that, losing in the World Series had to take something out them. Generally most teams who lose the World Series do not make the playoffs the next year. Although there have been exceptions, the 2004 New York Yankees, the 2005 St. Louis Cardinals and the 2001 Yankees just to name a few.

Chicago White Sox

CHICAGO - APRIL 29: Jermaine Dye #23 of the Chicago White Sox runs the bases after hitting a solo home run in the seventh inning against the Seattle Mariners on April 29, 2009 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois. The White Sox defeated the Mariner

Last year the White Sox took an impressive route to the playoffs when they won three do or die games at the end of the season to claim the American League Central Division.

However, this year the White Sox have become yet another year older and the team basically represents a Sunday beer league softball team these days. Hitting home runs may have been fine in the past, but they continue to rely on that and it will ultimately be their downfall.

They need to change their approach if they want to get back to October.

New York Yankees

I’m going to go out on a big limb here and predict that the Yankees will miss the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Shocking right?

I don’t think the Steinbrenners have figured out that money can’t buy a championship. If they want to win they need to go back to the formula that got them there in the first place, having the role players and unselfish guys who were willing to give themselves up for the betterment of the team.

The team now consists of guys who are more concerned with their own numbers more so then contributing to an overall team effort.
