Italy win the penalty shoot out 3-2, and win the FIFA Confederations Cup third-place playoff!
Gargano HAS to score Uruguay's last penalty...BUT IT'S SAVED BY BUFFON!!
It's Giaccherini for Italy...GOAL! Gives Muslera the eyes and sends him the wrong way. Uruguay must score, it's 3-2 to Italy.
Caceres for Uruguay now...SAVED BY BUFFON! Rubbish pen, low, almost central and very soft. Easy stop. Still 2-2.
De Sciglio for Italy...SAVED BY MUSLERA! 2-2 after three pens each.
Suarez for Uruguay...SCORES! Bottom right, cool and composed. 2-2.
El Shaarawy for Italy...SCORES! Also sends the keeper the wrong way. 2-1.
Cavani for Uruguay...SCORES! Low to the right, sent the keeper the wrong way. 1-1.
Aquilani for Italy...GOAL! Top corner, and Italy are 1-0 up.
Forlan...SEES HIS PENALTY SAVED!! Low, hard, slightly to the right and saved by Buffon's knees.
Right then, our second shoot-out in three days. Let's see how this one goes.... Diego Forlan is first.
Full time result
Uruguay 2 Italy 2
Penalty shoot out to follow
119'—SAVE! Gargano whacks in a shot from 25 yards and Buffon stretches to parry it away; Cavani screws a mis-hit shot wide on the rebound but he was offside anyway.
118'—Only Uruguay look like finding a winner, but they are running out of time to do so. Forlan takes a quick short corner but he can't work it into a presentable chance. Buffon has the ball and we are 90 seconds from penalties.
115'—Cavani lines up an effort for his hat trick, but it's a good 10 yards off target from a narrow angle. Five minutes until we have a penalty shoot out; looks like Italy have settled for that.
114'—Out of nothing, Suarez lets the ball run across his body and crashes in a right-footed shot from range. It's hard hit, but rising all the time and clears Buffon's bar by a metre.
112'—Eight minutes remaining. Is this the push Uruguay needed to go on and seal the win? Gargano and Diego Perez combine to good effect but the eventual chipped pass by Suarez is past everybody.
...Cavani's free kick goes approximately 40 yards over the bar.
RED CARD! Montolivo is shown a second yellow card and ensuing red. Italy will play the final 10 minutes with 10 men, and face another Cavani free kick...
109'—Aquilani gives the ball away, Suarez drives forward and is taken down by Montolivo.
109'—Candreva shoots from all of 30 yards and it bounces just wide. The goalkeeper perhaps got a touch there but the ref signals a goal kick.
108'—Suarez is the lone front man now for Uruguay, with Forlan and Cavani having dropped deeper into the centre again. Great rotation all game long from those three up top.
106'—So we've 15 minutes left. It will be penalties if there is no winning goal.
Arevalo off, Diego Perez on
