Milwaukee Bucks: Another Season, Another Lottery

Well here we are again.

The few remaining Bucks fans are looking forward and getting excited for another NBA Playoff without their beloved Milwaukee squad. This season offered plenty of headaches and some hope for the future. 

It was nice to see the team not tank and fight until the end, but now it's time to start thinking about what went wrong and what is so close to going right. 

Defense

Frankly there was none to be found. Michael Redd is terrible at defense and the rest of the team isn't much better. There were shining moments when Michael Ruffin, Dan Gadzuric and Royal Ivey would get on the floor, but that is about it. The three bigs in Yi Jianlian, Andrew Bogut and Charlie Villanueva all improved and look to be a bigger threat next season.

Mo Williams has plenty of potential on that end, but the coaching staff needs to find a way to get him motivated to play on that end. I would like to see what the Bucks could do with a matchup zone as opposed to their below average man-to-man defense next season.

Seeing Redd

Milwaukee is the only team unlucky enough to have a B-level superstar not fit within its system. There has been a lot of criticism towards Redd, and it's unwarranted because he is what he is; an offensive juggernaut who throws his punches in bunches. I like Redd for what he brings to the table, but his lack of defense and inability to take it to the rim strong keeps him out of the "A" level of stars.

Even still, most teams would love a "B" level superstar, but Redd just doesn't seem to mesh. The offensive flow halts and the defense suffers all around. I would love to say Redd should stay, but it seems the team is better off without him at times.

Spring Sessions

And this is why Redd can be expendable to a point. Ramon Sessions really made a statement over the last few weeks of the season with his ability to assist, defend and hit clutch shots. Sessions reminds me a lot of TJ Ford and could be the glue this team needs to work as a cohesive unit. I expect him to be the sixth-man at the very least next season.

This was a disappointing season for the Bucks but there is plenty to look forward to. Andrew Bogut is a few steps away from starting to dominate on a nightly basis, Yi Jianlian will improve his footwork over the summer and come back even more versatile, while Charlie V looks ready to take a leadership role. Sessions is hungry and there is no where to go but up.
