TUALATIN -- These are new times for the Trail Blazers. For example, on Thursday at the Blazers' NBA draft headquarters, the news broke that they'd picked CJ McCollum in the first round, and it was smiles everywhere. Not Blazers employees -- the media. A local television sports reporter cradled McCollum's freshly printed single page bio in his hands and said, "If he were a woman, I'd marry him." Hey, don't laugh. Because not only can McCollum create his own shot, and give the Blazers immediate depth, but he was easily the best interview in the entire draft. He'll be a wonderful ambassador and a terrific player, which is only to say, Portland got their most important pick right.
