FRISCO, Texas – The Portland Timbers advanced to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals for the first time in club history in dramatic fashion, rallying to top FC Dallas 3-2 on Wednesday. Darlington Nagbe was the Timbers' most valuable player, leading the Portland rally by recording a goal and an assist during a three-minute stretch in the second half. Portland, whose unbeaten streak improved to 18 games, tied it up, 1-1, during the 61st minute when Nagbe scored his sixth goal of the year. The Timbers' midfielder single-handedly created the impressive game-tying goal, dribbling in on the left side, moving past two defenders and beating goalkeeper Chris Seitz to the far corner of the net.
