Starting off with the latest Liverpool transfer news is an update on Reds' star Luis Suarez. Suarez, the prolific, if at times controversial forward, tallied 40 goals in 56 appearances last year for both Liverpool and Uruguay. According to the latest reports, the unhappy forward appears set on an exit from Anfield. However, Liverpool will force Suarez to hand in an official transfer request, somewhat complicating the selling process. Clearly Liverpool does not wish to see its best player leave without a fight.
There are currently two teams expressing heavy interest in Suarez, the first being Real Madrid. Madrid appears to be the likely destination for the Uruguayan, however, Real Madrid are hesitant to meet the £40 million demand for the striker. Therefore, there is speculation that Madrid will wait until the end of the summer to submit a transfer bid in an attempt to save on both wages and the transfer fee. The hope is that by doing so, Madrid will force Liverpool into the difficult decision of selling Suarez for a reduced price, or keeping the unhappy striker around for another year.
There is rampant speculation about who the newest Liverpool signing will be, and there appears to be four main targets.
First is 24 year-old Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrik Mkhitaryan, who appears to be in the midst of a £25million move to Anfield this summer. Though no move has of yet been completed, Mkhitaryan has failed to show up for Shakhtar's summer training session. This could illustrate that the player is anticipating a move to Anfield, and attempting to expedite the process.
Manager Brendan Rogers is reportedly interested in signing Gerard Deulofeu, a forward who tallied 18 goals in 33 appearances for Barcelona's B team last season. This signing would be the second player from Barcelona B to join Liverpool, following the Luis Alberto signing.
The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool is set to enter into a transfer battle with Arsenal for Yan Dhanda, the youngster from West Bromwich Albion. Though only 14, Dhanda was called up to participate in a training camp with England U16's, and is pegged for stardom.
Lastly, the Reds wish to sign Sporting Lisbon's 20 year-old central defender Tiago Lori, however the talks with Lisbon have hit a snag. Lisbon has apparently set a vastly unreasonable price tag for the player, expecting around £16.9 million. Against that price, Liverpool's original offer of £2.9 million seems almost microscopic. The two sides will need to do some heavy negotiating if a deal is to be made.
