According to Steve Large of CBS Sacramento, O'Neal met with Sacramento Kings brass on Tuesday night and said, "I'm going to make DeMarcus Cousins the best big man in the game."
Sam Shane, also of CBS Sacramento, reports that Kings owner Vivek Ranadive said that "Sacramento is about to be poppin":
Bringing on Shaq in any capacity would be another huge shakeup for the Kings this offseason. The Maloof family sold the team to a group led by Ranadive in May, hired new head coach Mike Malone on May 31 and brought on new general manager Pete D'Alessandro on June 15.
The team also added Malone's father, Brendan Malone, to the coaching staff on Tuesday, per ESPN.
Under Shaq's guidance DeMarcus Cousins will be _____.
Cousins is among the team's most valuable assets. The No. 5 pick in the 2010 draft has flashed the ability to be a franchise center in his first three seasons in the NBA. He was named to the NBA's All-Rookie First Team in 2011.
He averaged a double-double per game in his second season, but he didn't see much improvement in his game in Year 3. He averaged 17.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game in the team's latest campaign.
If anyone can push Cousins to the next level, it's O'Neal. The Big Aristotle is among the greatest centers in NBA history, averaging 23.7 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game over the span of his 19-year career.
