Trade talk surrounding some of the NBA's most notable players may not come to fruition until the draft on June 27, but speculation is already starting to heat up.
While offseason news will be dominated by the decisions of soon-to-be free agents like Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Josh Smith and others, there is no shortage of top players on the trading block as teams look to give themselves an upper edge heading into free agency.
Let's take a look at the latest buzz on the NBA trading block.
Shawn Marion to Cleveland?
According to Joe Kotoch of Sheridan Hoops, the Cavs are in serious discussions to acquire Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion.
Mark Cuban's Mavs are looking to offload Marion's $9.3 million salary in order to make a big splash in free agency, and the deal may also include swapping Cleveland's No. 19 pick with the Mavericks' 13th pick.
The 35-year-old would bring both athleticism and unmatched experience to a Cavaliers squad that is lacking the latter. With a young nucleus of Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters and the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft, they'll be desperate for leadership in the locker room.
Marion won't be the 20-points-per-game star that he was earlier in his career, but he's proven in his last few seasons with Dallas that he can still be a major contributor.
With the Mavs desperate to clear cap space and the Cavs looking to add quality players to their roster, this move might benefit both sides.
DeMarcus Cousins Wants Max Contract or Trade
Never one to refuse stirring the pot, Sacramento Kings power forward DeMarcus Cousins has made a splash once again.
According to a report from Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee, Cousins is demanding either a maximum-level extension to his Kings contract or a trade.
"His agent, Dan Fegan, has instructed Cousins not to speak on anything relating to the Kings team, management or ownership."
"Cousins is eligible for a contract extension this summer, and Fegan wants a maximum deal for his client with the threat of a trade demand looming if a deal isn't reached."
Cousins has been mostly silent throughout Sacramento's ownership changes and the near move to Seattle, but this latest news only intensifies the growing notion of his unhappiness with the Kings.
The 22-year-old has an argument as far as deserving a max contract, putting up 17.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game in 2012-13 after averaging a double-double the previous year.
Cousins and his future is one of the biggest storylines to follow this offseason, and it's getting more interesting as the days progress.
Pau Gasol in Draft-Day Move?
If anyone is used to downplaying serious trade rumors in the NBA, it's Los Angeles Lakers big man Pau Gasol. But with the Lakers struggling to find ways to woo Dwight Howard into re-signing as a free agent, a deal could finally be in the works.
Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio stated that the Lakers are desperately trying to offer Gasol in a move that will give them a first-round pick in Thursday's draft.
From everything I hear, they're trying. Dangling Pau to make splash. RT @JDMugno9: any chances lakers try to trade for a 1st round pick?— Sam Amico (@SamAmicoFSO) June 21, 2013
The 32-year-old Spaniard has been the Lakers' most obvious source of trade bait for many seasons, so it's not exactly surprising to see his name pop up yet again this offseason.
But if there's one thing we've learned from Gasol rumors, it's to take them with a grain of salt.
