Uruguay manage a close-fought 2-1 win over Nigeria in Group B of the Confederations Cup. Goals came from Lugano, Mikel and Forlan. The 34-year-old hero of the World Cup 2010 hit a stunning 66.9 MPH strike to seal the deal for the Sky Blues. The goal also marked his 100th appearance for his country, making him the most-capped player for Uruguay.

Forlan's goal was all that separated his team from the Nigerians, as the game was largely an even battle. Although Nigeria started as the brighter of the two, ultimately they lacked ideas in the final third.

Their unbeaten run of 18 games, their best ever record, has therefore finally come to an end. Things get difficult for them in the group now, and they know they will most likely need a win against Spain to progress to the semifinals.

Uruguay, with Tahiti on the horizon, look to be the safe bet to face either Italy or Brazil in the next round.
