More NBA teams will reportedly wear uniforms with sleeves during the course of the 2013-14 season.

According to Darren Rovell of, the league plans to expand its use of the jerseys to include as many as five teams for a total of up to 12 games each next year:

Hoping in part to push along sales of NBA jerseys, more teams will wear uniforms with sleeves next season.

An NBA source told that as many as five teams will wear the short-sleeve jerseys as an alternate jersey for as much as 12 games during the season.

"We are interested in doing more short-sleeve jerseys when it makes sense," said Patrik Nilsson, president of Adidas North America.

By "sense," Patrik Nilsson is making reference to sales. Nilsson says Adidas pays roughly $35 million to be the official apparel provider of the Association and is "motivated" to get more fans to wear the jerseys.

Per Rovell, every NBA team was offered the opportunity to add the sleeved jerseys to their alternative uniform schedules, though it remains unclear exactly how many have committed to it.

Sal LaRocca, the NBA's executive vice president of global merchandising, said the increased implementation of the jerseys will allow for a more versatile purchasing option for the league's fans. He also added that he doesn't believe sales of the t-shirt-looking uniforms will "outpace" those of the traditional sleeveless jerseys.

In conjunction with driving sales, the sleeved look—which Adidas has named the adizero NBA short sleeve uniform system—is aimed at increasing function of the league's players.

According to Adidas, the short-sleeved adaptations are 26 percent lighter than the conventional version and provide players with a full range of motion, "so as not to compromise a player's shot."

The Golden State Warriors sported the innovative design on three separate occasions this past season.

With the NBA and Adidas looking to drive its popularity, we can now expect to see more teams donning the sleeved jerseys for a much larger portion of the season.
