For years, everyone in Oakland has been boasting about how good their team is. Every season, we all have to suffer from these rejects from the local Star Wars Convention, and every year they are more and more obnoxious. Unfortunately, no matter how many times they show their pretty painted faces, they still wind up hearing the same thing: RAIDERS SUCK!
Yeah, that's right. I said it, as well as everyone else who has had to deal with the likes of the fans who just don't get it. What makes these fans worse is that they don't realize just how bad the Raiders truly are. From their infamous rivalry games with the Broncos to the unbelievable transition from worst to first and worst again, Oakland has left its fans with nothing to smile about.
It's become rather apparent that the loyal fans of Oakland are just looking for reasons to go off the deep end of the NFL ocean. Their team has been the laughing stock of the NFL for years. Even their Super Bowl run turned out to be a joke when they got there.
Losing to a ferocious Tampa Bay defense was bad, but losing to the coach that you sent packing because you thought he would never make it to the Super Bowl?
That's just pathetic.
Oakland has had some things to smile about, even though they have come few and far in between, at least they're not the Miami Dolphins. But they are still the Oakland Raiders...and they have yet to put up. So shut up already!
The issues in Raiderville don't stop there as Oakland has become notorious for being the place where all pro athletes' careers come to die. Even San Francisco is getting more respect and they haven't seen the postseason since Mooch was still running the show.
But the issues didn't stop there.
The Raiders selected JaMarcus Russell in last year's draft and no one saw him for pretty much the entire season. This was no surprise simply because anyone who has to play for Oakland should just stay at home and watch them make complete and total fools of themselves every single Sunday.
Russell didn't show his mug until the Raiders season was already over, but even then, the Raiders kept trying to embarrass themselves worse than they already have. But the fans kept talking and we were constantly stocking our pantries with earplugs, duct tape, and muzzles (for those extremely anal Raider fans). Oakland sucks and everyone knows it, except their fans.
This brings us to the age old question: "Does Oakland deserve the moniker "Nation"?" The answer is simple: Absolutely NOT! They haven't earned that. The Gators earned that moniker (hence Gator Nation). The Red Sox earned that moniker (voila! Red Sox Nation).
What has Oakland done?
They have always been called "The Black Hole." I think that's because the Raiders were going to be on national TV, and you can't put @$$hole on there without an FCC fine. How about something that describes how the last few years have been for them?
I think if Oakland is hell bent on becoming a legitimate threat, they should stop grabbing players out of the San Quentin yellow pages, revoke K-Fed's season ticket privileges, and above all else, make your players play! Trust me Oakland. This time tested method has worked for every team in the AFC West. The Chiefs have found some success, as have the Chargers. Even the Broncos have been pretty decent.
I may find myself laughing at the Raiders on the outside, but deep down on the inside, I have to like those fiery fans. Their passion is a true sign of a die-hard sports fan who...ah, who am I kidding? I'm laughing all over! And all those guys deserve to get laughed at.
For an alliance of fans who are in Halloween costumes long before October, they have to realize that all they are doing are making it easier for guys like me to crack jokes and make them look how they truly are: Ridiculous.
So with that being said, I send this message to the citizens of Raiderville: The moniker of Nation is no longer yours. In fact, I don't think it's ever been yours. Accept the moniker of Raiderville, because until you guys get back into the playoffs, the only nation you guys are a part of currently resides in Detroit. You guys should get along great.
But hey! That's just my two cents. I could be wrong. But until it has been proven, Raiderville, either tell your team to put up in '08, or shut your cakers until they do. Have a nice day.

We split with KC and Denver with a lot of help the refs gave them and SD got over on us because of 4 or 5 turnovers in the last game of the season!

Everyone can bash the Raiders as much as they want but who has the largest fan base other than maybe the Cowboys exactly the Raiders. The last five years has been rough but what about the years before then. Our biggest mistake was letting Jon Gruden go, with Nothing to show for it (Callahan can't even win in college). See Kiffin will bring glory back to the nation. We get such a bad rep cause we're the bad boys of football. 08 is our year and the rams need to hire Mike Martz back.

You are right about having the largest fan base because aside from raider fans you have raider haters. They love to hate the raiders making them fans as well. The thing about raider haters is they put more time into hating the raiders than liking their own team. They can't even be considered fans of their team because they put more effort into bashing the raiders than cheering for their team. Funny coming from a Rams fan. The Rams have also gone from worst to first and then worst again. Every year, I hear the same story about how the Rams are going to be great again Steven Jackson will put up great numbers and then..... Nothing. Oh injuries, or this or that. Speaking of losing superbowls, didn't the Rams lose one not too long ago too. And then went downhill just like the Raiders. The truth is that once the Raiders lost Rich Gannon, a MVP and team leader, the Raiders stumbled. I want to see what would happen to current teams if they lost their MVP. If the colts lost Payton, or Patties lost Brady would they be fine the next year? I don't think so. It takes some time to recover from losing a great QB. I am of the belief that the Raiders took a huge step in the right direction by drafting the future of the franchise in Jamarcus Russell. If Jamarcus is the real deal....then the Raiders will be back on top completing in the playoffs. The defense will be there this year, and by next year at the latest, the Raiders will be back.... I live in California, and I have yet to see a single piece of Rams paraphernalia. Hats, jerseys, license plate holders—nothing. Not a logo anywhere in sight. Maybe it's a quiet respect.
Raider fans are a Nation because our franchise has one of the largest, most geographically diverse fan bases in the United States, rivaled by only the Cowboys, and maybe the Yankees or Cubs. Our fans are loyal, and support the franchise even in lean years, creating an influx of revenue into the league that allows smaller-market teams lke St. Louis to float.

I have always been a Raider Fan. No matter what is said by these journalist, what wrong decisions have been made by my team(hiring Shell), what rumors are being made up about Lane, or what their win/lose rate has been over these past years, I will remain a Raider until I die. No team has had a bigger impact in the NFL than the Oakland Raiders. No team has more Hall of Famers than the Oakland Raiders. No team has had more haters than the Oakland Raiders. This is what my team has to show for. What do the Rams have to show for? And there have been people like this(Raider Haters) that have been in the league for decades that make things difficult and controversial for the organization itself. As all true Raider fans know, our team has been the most controversial, with the "immaculate reception", the "tuck rule", and more recently the two forward passes during one play that happened two years ago in San Diego. If I was a Rams fan, I would thank the NFL for finally enforcing the Tuck Rule back in 2001. If not, the Rams would have faced the Raiders in the Super Bowl, and that would have been fair for St. Louis. You guys were fortunate to face the Pats instead of the Raiders, but still lost. It's the RAIDERS AGAINST THE WORLD.

The Donkeys are about to entering a world of turmoil and inner conflict that will be tearing them apart for a while now, the end of the Rat is at hand, Donkey fans saying we suck, that is new! Yet we just kicked the crap out of them last season and will be kicking their butt on National TV to put the finishing touches on Kick Off weekend.
I have all the faith in the world bro, it is only a matter of time, wasn't that long ago we were taking the AFC West year after year, we lost the whole nuclues of our team after that not just Gannon, but Brown, Wiz, R. Woodson, Garner, on and on, we have had to rebuild, we are rebuilding and we are young, the future is coming and I guarantee you the Donkey fans are pissing their pants, and looking in horror at the joke their own franchise is quickly becoming!
I don't know if we will be in the playoff's this year, I honestly think a lot of things would have to line up right and we would have to be a little lucky, but I do think we will be there the following season.

What can I say Ron? Yes the Raiders have not had the best of their seasons for the last five years but I dont see the Rams having as many superbowls, division titles or conference visits as the Raiders. I even doubt the Rams having a higher OVERALL win percentage than the Raiders despite our five straight losing seasons. We raider Fans chose to live and Die for our Raider pride and we all chose to bear the Silver & Black shield regardless of how good our team has been this season, last season or the ones before. We always chose to represent Oakland till the dieing day. This goes out to the General Public. Do you really think the Raiders will be bad for the rest of existance? Of coarse not. These are dark times for us yes but all team had rough times. Hell you never even heard of the colts or Pats until Manning and Brady took the helm. They have had their fair share of good players but they were never truly contenders in the past. Why does everyone hate the Raiders so much? Is it because everyone and I mean everyone either knows they are so much better than they have been. If it weren't for Kurt Warner, a great guy I might add, the Rams would not have won a single Superbowl. So you should thank him for his quick release and having to squirm away from the defense because his offensive couldn't hold a block to save their lives. You should also thank for making Holt and Bruce reliable targets because of his leadership and chemistry. You should also thank him for for leaving his previous job of bagging groceries to become a Ram QB. Kurt Warner made the Rams famous. Other than that... your Rams aren't much of a franchise. They got lucky and won by a yard because McNair was tearing up that defense. With regards to Nation I remember when we first started calling ourselves the Raider Nation. Many articles were wrote about how only Fans like the Raiders would call themselves a Nation and many writers went on to say no other teams Fans do that. Careful with your heavy generalizations. Not all membes of the Raider Nation are blind to the recent shortcomings of its team. Don't mistake whole-hearted optimism for ignorance. And while I'm at it, the name 'Raider Nation' is very deserving for the fans of this franchise. Not many organizations could claim such a faithful fan base after residing in the cellar for a half decade.
I am surprised at your lukewarm praise for two other members of the AFC west. "The Chiefs have found some success...." How is it that you can compliment the Chiefs relative to the Raiders? This must have been a lapse in judgement as Kansas City seems to be slipping while the Raiders appear to have finally regained their footing. If the Raiders had not faced the firing squad to finish the season (Green Bay, Indy, Jags, and S.D.) they could have pulled of a 6-7 win season. The Chiefs, even with a favorable run of teams, managed to lose its last four games. The Broncos are in quite an interesting state themselves. Not nearly as precarious a situtation as found in Kansas City, but definately not a program making good progress.
Considering your elaborate rant on how much the Raiders and its nation suck, your wager seems a bit reserved. The article states the extent to which you believe the Raiders suck, but if they were as horrible as you claim you should feel comfortable betting that they struggle to get more than 4 wins. Or, in the least, you should feel comfortable claiming that the Raiders will fail to outperform tyour Rams in the win-loss column. How about it?

Let me start by saying this...the Rams were the doormat of the NFC Worst last year...more like NFL Worst...and there is no reason to believe that they will get any better anytime soon. At least the Dolphins played in a competitive division.
But Ron is right, it is embarrasing to go to the coliseum and see some of the idiots in their stupid costumes with all of the stupid spikes and skull heads on the shoulders. Everytime I see those people I think "Where did you come from, LA?" In the 1970's we did not have the freakshows in attendance, probably because the Raiders were a hot ticket and the the costume freaks were priced out. The only costume I remember was Darth Vader. To all the freakshows: how do you watch football and drink beer if you are so busy putting together your stupid outfit and making sure your make-up is correct? How do you pay attention to what really matters when all you are trying to do is win the "biggest idiot in attendance" award?
Ron is right on a few observations: it is no secret that the Raiders have played bad football the last 5 years. It is also no secret that while we have some of the best fans in football, we also have some of biggest embarrassments in football with respect to the numerous band camp rejects in attendance.
If you are a fan, go out and buy some Raiders merchandise. If you want to be a mascot, go sign up for band camp or drama class.
