The Mirror's Joe Mewis is reporting that Manchester United transfer target Kevin Strootman wants to be playing Premier League football next season, according to the player's agent Chiel Dekker.

Strootman has been one of United's top targets for the best part of a year now, and this news will come as a welcome re-assurance for fans who are desperate to snap up the 23-year-old.

Dekker said:

He is focused on England because that would suit his style.

He has the physique, the character and the fitness for it.

I am certainly not afraid he could handle that level.

There's been a lot of hearsay surrounding Strootman for a while with very little actual backing for a potential transfer.

This revelation from Dekker doesn't change that, but it does indicate that the Dutch U-21 clearly has a move to England in mind, and with United showing such a keen interest for a lengthy period of time, it would make perfect sense for Strootman to try and align himself with the English champions.

Dekker has made it clear that if Kevin were to move away from his current club, PSV, it would have to be for big money and to a side of a higher pedigree.

From PSV it would have to be a step up to a good club.

It is not simple though because the price will be expensive and not many teams can afford him.

The clubs know what he can do now. It is up to them whether they want to reach an agreement with PSV and take him.

Most people are aware by now that Strootman plays as a central midfielder and has been touted as a potential replacement for Paul Scholes.

In truth, United desperately need a player of Strootman's quality, and at such a tender age, he would be the perfect player to mold into the United style of play.

David Moyes is yet to make a move for the PSV man, but with the amount of attention that the club has paid to the young man, I would be shocked if United don't make an offer at some point in the coming months.
