In a game that saw Max Scherzer become the first starter to 10 wins in the American League, Detroit beat Baltimore 5-1. Scherzer also became the first Detroit starter in franchise history (112 years) to starter a season off 10-0.
Miguel Cabrera and Chris Davis homered in the first and second innings, respectively, and the score remained 3-1 with Detroit on top for several innings.
In the fifth, Detroit added on to its lead as Austin Jackson (three hits so far tonight), Torii Hunter, Victor Martinez, and Jhonny Peralta all came up big for the Tigers. Arrieta left the game after four and two-thirds innings pitched after getting beat up in the fifth. He will likely be sent back down to the minors after tonight.
Despite getting his pitch count up early, Scherzer was able to post a quality start as he pitched six innings and only allowed one run while striking out 10. Drew Smyly, the long-inning reliever, has pitched three innings, recorded the save, and was downright lights out.
