0 of 5

The David Moyes era has started for Manchester United, and the Red Devils continue to be linked to new players.

One position in particular, attacking midfielder, has been subject to a number of rumoured additions.

Attacking midfield may not be the primary position for some of these players, but they would all be capable of producing quality.

Whether these players are versatile enough to fill other positions, are experienced stars or are yet to fulfill their potential, they have all been linked to the club.

Here are five attacking midfielders who Manchester United are considering.

Marco van Ginkel

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United and Chelsea are set for a bidding war to sign Vitesse midfielder Marco van Ginkel.

The 20-year-old Dutch midfielder was part of the U-21 Netherlands side during their run to the semifinal of the UEFA European U-21 Championship.

He played as one of the two midfielders in the Netherlands' 4-2-3-1 formation, and played as one of three midfielders in Vitesse's 4-3-3 formation.

He sometimes played as the most advanced midfielder in his club's formation, and his eight goals in 33 games shows his knack for goalscoring.

Cesc Fabregas

Manchester United was linked, via The Metro, with a move for Cesc Fabregas.

The Barcelona midfielder is currently on international duty with Spain, participating in the Confederations Cup. Talksport has reported the player's unwillingness to go through with such a move. As seen on ESPN UK, Fabregas has stated that any talk of an exit is incorrect.

He scored 14 goals and added 11 assists in all competitions for Barcelona this past season.

Thiago Alcantara

The Mirror reports that Manchester United is also interested in another Barcelona, and Spain, midfielder, Thiago Alcantara.

Alcantara is starring, yet again, for the Spanish U-21 side, who are set to defend their title in the UEFA European U-21 Championship on Tuesday.

Despite his obvious potential, Thiago's future at Barcelona has been in question. With players like Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Cesc Fabregas ahead of him, he has been unable to see as much playing time as he would like.

Whether he would welcome a move to Manchester United is another matter.

Thiago may be a bit better off playing in a deep-lying midfield position, but has more than enough talent to fulfill an attacking midfield role well.

Christian Eriksen

Ajax midfielder, Christian Eriksen, has long been seen as a target for Manchester United.

Though Talksport reported at the end of May that he was to sign with Borussia Dortmund, the Daily Star recently revealed that the door is still open for a move to United.

The Danish attacking midfielder would be an excellent addition for the United squad. He has continued to improve with Ajax, scoring 11 goals and adding five assists during the 2012/13 season, and has the versatility to fill a number of roles.

Nicolas Gaitan

According to the Express, Manchester United may face some competition from Bayer Leverkusen to sign Nicolas Gaitan.

Gaitan can play in all three positions behind the forward, but would need to improve his output as a primary attacking midfielder. He scored four goals and had one assist during the 2012/13 season.

The Benfica attacking midfielder has been linked with the club for some time, with Jamie Sanderson of the Metro reporting that he would be interested in a move to England.
