Rangers Sign Dominican Lefty Francis Cespedes for $750,000

The Rangers agreed to terms with one more high-priced pitcher before the end of the 2012-13 international signing period, signing Dominican lefthander Francis Cespedes for $750,000. The 2012-13 signing period closed on June 15, so Cespedes' contract will count against the Rangers' $2.9 bonus pool for that signing period. Major League Baseball is currently in a “closed period,” during which no prospects are allowed to sign until the 2013-14 signing period begins on July 2. Cespedes' contract is still contingent on him passing MLB's standard investigation into his age and identity.
