During Sunday's WWE Payback, AJ Lee defeated former friend Kaitlyn to win the Divas Championship in one of the best Divas matches in recent history.

The win signals the culmination of a year-long push for Lee that saw her become the top female performer in the industry throughout 2012 and one of the most featured stars on WWE programming. A complete performer, AJ has long been the most valuable star on the Divas roster.

On Sunday night, that value was rewarded with the most prestigious prize a woman can earn in WWE.

For Kaitlyn, her loss signaled the end of her first run as a champion and also hinted at a change in character for the winner of the third season of NXT.

Crushed by the rouse that was the revelation of her secret admirer, Kaitlyn has taken her aggression out on any and everyone around her. She has attacked referees and fellow Divas. On Sunday night, she allowed her emotions to get the best of her. She made a stupid mistake instead of putting AJ away, and ultimately, that mistake cost her the match and title.

An emotional wreck after the match, Kaitlyn refused the attention of Layla, Alicia Fox and Natalya and stalked off to the dressing room by herself.

The loss may propel Kaitlyn in a direction toward a complete mental breakdown, not unlike the one that AJ endured last year, but it may also result in a more aggressive and dangerous character that could help get the Houston native over more with the WWE Universe.

While the direction of Kaitlyn's character may be further shrouded in uncertainty, one thing is for certain: AJ Lee is the most over woman on the roster, and now, she has the Divas title to prove it.

If her in-ring performances can capitalize on the momentum following the spectacular match against Kaitlyn, the Divas division may finally enjoy some rejuvenation.
