In a summer that has seen Brazilian star Neymar on the move and rumors of Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain potentially changing kits, Tottenham's Gareth Bale remains one of the top commodities for some elite teams throughout Europe.
It's easy to see why he's piqued the interest of some top clubs. He's coming off of a breakout season in which he scored 26 goals in 44 appearances for the Spurs. And at 23 years old, he's just about to enter his prime.
Who doesn't want a 23-year-old with all the makings of a future superstar?
Bale can play either on the wing (he made 20 appearances there, with eight goals and two assists last season) or as an attacking mid (13 appearances with 11 goals and four assists). So he's the perfect solution for teams looking to bolster their attack this summer.
Here's the latest buzz surrounding his possible transfer from the Spurs.
Real Madrid Ready to Break the Bank
La Liga power Real Madrid may have the serious task of replacing Cristiano Ronaldo. And it appears that they believe Bale may be the man to do it.
According to the Daily Mail, the La Liga giant is ready to offer Tottenham a record-breaking £85 million transfer for the young Welsh star.
The 28-year-old Ronaldo has been linked to both a return to Machester United and French clubs Monaco and Paris St-Germain, per the Telegraph. Considering he scored 34 goals and 10 assists in 30 La Liga appearances last season, he would be leaving a considerable hole in their roster with his departure.
Bale's ability to play in either the middle or on the left wing would provide Madrid with the flexibility to recover from Ronaldo's exit.
Paris St-Germain Prepared to Match
Real Madrid isn't the only club ready to break the bank. Paris St-Germain, who is linked to Ronaldo, is willing to match the Spanish club's exorbitant offer according to the Daily Mail.
PSG has recently shown that it's a club willing to shell out plenty of cash to become a champion. According to the Daily Mail, the club has spent over £200 million in transfer fees since a new ownership group took over in 2011.
Coming off of a championship season, securing Bale's talents could make them the prohibitive favorite in Ligue 1 for years to come.
PSG's leading scorer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is now 31 and the club has few other scoring options, so Bale would make plenty of sense for them.
Manchester United Hoping for Huge Coup
Perhaps the most interesting rumor involving Bale involves the star coming to Manchester United. According to The Sun, United is hoping that a successful £85 million bid for Bale would not only bring the star to the Red Devils, but would also be enough to convince Ronaldo to join him.
The pairing would certainly go a long way in cementing United's status as the odds-on favorite to continue their reign atop the EPL table.
It would also allow Bale to continue living in England while joining a club that gives him the opportunity to win at the highest level.
Whether Bale decides to sign with one of these premier clubs, stay with Tottenham or possibly sign with a darkhorse that has yet to emerge, it's going to be an interesting summer for him.
