UEFA Cup: The Case Against Cardiff

Jamie MasonCorrespondent IApril 8, 2008

In my previous article I gave my reasoning about why I feel Cardiff should be allowed to represent England in next seasons UEFA Cup, and a part of me still thinks they should if they have the fortune to win the FA Cup.

And then it dawned on me, why haven't the FAW (Football Association of Wales) given their opinion, would they like one of their clubs to represent England then when I looked into things I realised why.

In the years 1977, 1979, 1984 and 1985 Shrewsbury Town lifted the Welsh Cup.

In 1989 it was Hereford United's turn and what have these two small clubs got in common, they are ENGLISH and guess what no English clubs can represent Wales in European Competition.

That rule still hasn't changed so now there is a new slant on the argument, if the Welsh FA don't want English clubs representing them why should the FA nominate Cardiff as an English representative?

Where can I comment?
