Yasiel Puig Injury: Updates on Dodgers Star's Shoulder

Tim KeeneyContributor IJune 13, 2013

Contrary to popular belief, Yasiel Puig is not a cyborg.

According to the Los Angeles Dodgers' official Twitter account, the 22-year-old burgeoning superstar is missing Wednesday night's matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks with an injured shoulder:

It's not clear how serious the injury is, but this is the last thing the last-place Dodgers need right now.

After barreling through the minors, Puig was called up at the beginning of June, and in just over a week, he has taken the entire league by storm.

In his first major league game, he had two singles and showcased his rocket arm by throwing out Kyle Blanks at first base from the warning track for a game-ending double play against the San Diego Padres.

In his next game, he homered twice, with one traveling a gargantuan 440 feet.

After shockingly going hitless in his third major league game, he hit a grand slam in the next and another homer in the game after that.

In nine games, he has compiled a .471/.500/.882 (.882!) slash line to go with four homers, two doubles, five runs scored and 10 RBI in one of the most unbelievable starts to a career in MLB history.

Almost single-handedly, Puig has injected life into the hapless Dodgers, virtually gaining legendary status in the process. Losing him for an extended period of time would be brutal.

With Alex Castellanos, who has one plate appearance this season, taking his spot in right field and Carl Crawford already on the disabled list, it's safe to say the Los Angeles Dodgers will be hoping for a swift return from their young stud.
