With the sun shining, the pitch being relayed and the players on their holidays, all is quiet on the football front at St. James’ Park.
But the rumour mill began to show signs of life the second the season finished a little over three weeks ago, and as always, Newcastle United have been linked with whole host of names.
After a difficult 2012-13 campaign, which saw the club flirt dangerously with relegation, Alan Pardew and his staff are well aware of the need to strengthen the squad.
With Premier League football secured, the Magpies manager will be hoping for a breakthrough in the transfer market over the coming weeks with the following five names the latest to be linked with a switch to Tyneside.
Gervinho: On his way out at Arsenal?
Instead, the 26-year-old opted for a move to Arsenal, but after a tricky spell at The Emirates that has seen him score just 11 times in two seasons, he is now tipped for a move away from North London.
While the French daily L’Equipe (via 101greatgoals) recently suggested a switch to Ligue 1 club Marseille, Scott Wilson of The Northern Echo reports that the powers that be at St. James’ Park are keeping a close eye on the situation.
Gervinho enjoyed a successful spell with Lille prior to his £10 million move to the Gunners, winning a league and cup double alongside current Newcastle stars Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy.
Could Sakho be the next Frenchman to arrive at Newcastle?
With the Magpies keen to strengthen their defensive options this summer, Mamadou Sakho is a French international that has caught Alan Pardew’s eye over the last couple of seasons.
The centre-half is currently weighing up his options with hometown club Paris Saint-Germain as his manager, Carlo Ancelotti, continues to be linked with the vacant position at Real Madrid, via Pablo Polo of Marca.
According to Lee Ryder of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, the 23-year-old will bide his time over his next move as he waits to see who will replace Ancelotti should he move to the Spanish capital.
The report also suggests the Magpies are willing to listen to offers for current defender Mike Williamson, with Swansea City known to have a long-standing interest in the player.
Bojan Krkic spent last season on loan at AC Milan
With his chances limited at AC Milan following a season-long loan at the San Siro from parent club AS Roma, Spanish forward Bojan Krkic is another player attracting attention from Premier League clubs—and according to talkSPORT, Newcastle are one of them.
The 22-year-old joined Roma from Barcelona two years ago in a complicated deal that included a buy-back clause at the end of the 2012-13 campaign. With Barça unlikely to take up that option and Milan unwilling to pay the agreed £12.5 million asking price, his future is now up the air once more.
Liverpool are also credited with an interest in the former Under-21 international, who won 10 trophies in just four years at the Camp Nou under Pep Guardiola before moving to the Italian capital.

The Republic of Ireland international had been at Reading his entire career and also enjoyed previous loan spells with the likes of Southampton and Norwich. He was also on The Royals’ books as a youngster under Alan Pardew.
Now, the 24-year-old centre-back, who was named as Reading’s Player of the Year at the end of the 2011-12 season, is in demand after seeing out his contract at the Madejski Stadium.
Ince scored 18 times for Blackpool last season.
The son of ex-England and Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince has also been linked to another of his father’s former clubs, Inter Milan, with Alan Oliver of Mirror Football indicating that the Italian giants are in the frame along with Tottenham Hotspur.
Newly promoted Crystal Palace are also part of the equation according to Ed Malyon of Mirror Football, after the England Under-21 international netted 18 times in the Championship last season and won the Football League Young Player of the Year award.
