Well, the announcement that we have all been waiting for was finally revealed during Monday night's Raw: Dolph Ziggler announced he would be at Payback, making the long-rumored match against Alberto Del Rio official.
Overall, this is great news for the company and fans of Ziggler, as both sides have desperately been missing "The Show-Off" and the world title's presence.
That being said, I have to wonder how the WWE plans on moving forward with the world title picture, especially considering no one truly knows the official health status of Ziggler and the only other contender, Jack Swagger, is out indefinitely nursing a hand injury.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think the WWE would do anything to jeopardize Dolph Ziggler's health, but the world title has pretty much been in limbo for a little over a month and needs to be brought back into the fold. This means the WWE may need to rely on him heavily in order to keep the world title scene fresh.
Although, the company does have one other option, as it could easily have Ziggler drop the belt at Payback, allowing him to fully heal while keeping the world title relevant around someone else’s waist.
Essentially, the company would simply need to come up with a short-term feud for Del Rio in order for the title to maintain the little luster it still has. Then, when Ziggler is primed and ready, he can be inserted back into the main event scene and challenge Del Rio for a chance at another run with the title.
In the end, we will have to wait and see what unfolds as Sunday's Payback pay-per-view draws nearer.
