Following his loss to Sheamus at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view, Henry is currently off television dealing with shoulder issues. This was bad news for fans of the star, who only just returned from a long injury layoff in February of this year.
Per a report from F4Wonline (via WrestlingInc), his decision to take time off has caused problems between him and WWE. It appears the writers had major plans for Henry, which then had to be dropped. That the star went on a hiatus for something that does not require immediate surgery is apparently the source of the tension.
Unsurprisingly, this report, as well as Henry's numerous injuries over the past few years, has led to my own speculation that the star's time in wrestling may be coming to an end. Henry has been with WWE for 17 years.
Well, after a long period of silence, the former World Heavyweight champion wrote several work/shoot messages on Twitter, emphasizing that he would not retire. Interestingly, in a remark seemingly aimed at the online reports, he also stressed that he is indeed injured and needs time off.
So, what is the deal here?
Well, Henry's remark that he'll return when he's ready and not because "the roster is thin" could be interpreted as a dig at WWE. No doubt they'd like their top heel back sooner rather than later, but does the star really want to risk rushing back and going down with another injury?
He also appears to be irate at anyone claiming he might not be genuinely hurt. For the record, I don't think any online reports have even suggested that he's not. Just that WWE are unhappy with his decision to stay home for a while and rest up.
