Erving Backs Hinkie and Sixers' New Direction

NBA Hall of Famer Julius Erving is preaching patience on the part of 76ers fans when it comes to the team's new general manager, Sam Hinkie. Erving, 63, believes that the Sixers made the right move in hiring Hinkie, a former Houston Rockets executive. "I think that the ownership group has an agenda set for winning," Erving said. "What happened to us last year with getting damaged goods [in center Andrew Bynum], hopefully it will only happen once. That's the extent of that learning curve. Hopefully, we can be a contender under this ownership group . . . They have a commitment to Philadelphia and I think they'll fulfill it."
