"I am very grateful to have the opportunity to play with so many great players," Neymar said. "Players I have admired since I was a boy. All the Barca players - Messi, Xavi, Iniesta - this is a new stage in my life. I am very happy, it was very emotional to go onto the pitch at the Nou Camp, the way the fans applauded me, I had to hold back the tears."
Neymar has quickly established himself as one of the best players in the world. At only 21, the forward has scored 13 goals in 24 appearances this year. He also scored six goals in the 2012 Olympics.
He's an incredibly creative player, with top speed and excellent finishing ability. That will only get better playing alongside Messi.
With Messi, arguably the world's best player, feeding Neymar the ball, and with defenses unable to focus all their attention on Neymar, the newest member of Barca should have plenty of great scoring opportunities.
In addition, pressure will be taken off of Messi. He will no longer have to do everything on his own. He should have more room to operate, and more room to create magic. If he has an off game, then Neymar will be able to pick up the slack.
Dani Alves told NDTV Sports that the combination of Messi and Neymar will pay off for Barcelona:
"In some games they have marked Messi a lot and Neymar would help unbalance defences more. We have lacked a little continuity up front and the objective looking forward to next season is to continue competing for everything."
Barcelona instantly becomes the favorite in La Liga. They have an absolutely stacked offense and defenses will be hard-pressed to stop them. If defenses decide to focus on Messi, then they will get burned by Neymar. If defenses decide to focus on Neymar, then Messi will have a big game. There's no easy option.
And you can't forget about players like Andres Iniesta, Thiago Alcantara, Xavi Hernandez and Sergio Busquets.
Barca is stacked with talent throughout the roster. They are already the defending league champions. Now, add Neymar, who truly is an electric and exciting player, and the sky is the limit. In fact, there's no reason that Barcelona couldn't make a deep run in the UEFA Champions League.
Quite simply, the addition of Neymar makes an already great team even better. He will likely score even more goals than he has already, due to the presence of Messi. And Messi, if it's possible, will have even better opportunities to score.
It's a win-win situation for Barcelona, which will play great soccer as a result.
