Dick Vitale Finally Hits Paydirt
On September 5, 2008 Dick Vitale will do something he's never done before: be a member of the Professional Basketball Hall of Fame.
Vitale and seven others, most notably Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon and coach Pat Riley, will be enshrined. The ceremony will be in Springfield, Mass., home of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
This raises the question...should Dicky V get in? He was not a great player, really, just a mediocre college coach, and the only thing to his credit is his enthusiasm toward college basketball.
Personally, I like his style when calling a game, but other players did deserve to get in while Vitale watched from his home. Players like Dennis Johnson and Chris Mullen certainly deserve this honor. Both were team players and proven clutch performers.
I think Vitale should get in some day, but only after the true PTPers are elected.
