Arsenal finished in fourth in the English Premier League this past season, but the club is ready for more success. This will require some additions during the summer.

As the squad looks to contend for a league title and attempt to do well in the Champions League, it will need an influx of more talent. Fortunately, there are a number of available targets that are already linked to the club.

The entire summer will be filled with tons of rumors from various sources, but here is the latest news surrounding the squad's best options this offseason.

Wayne Rooney

It is difficult to imagine Wayne Rooney playing for another club after spending every year since 2004 with Manchester United. However, fans will have to start preparing for a switch this summer.

The English forward has put in a transfer request, most likely due to the fact that his role has decreased significantly since the club acquired Robin van Persie.

When Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was asked about the player by Al Jazeera Sport, he hinted that bringing him in would be possible, via Ben Curtis of Mirror Football:

Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world, who would turn him down?

David Moyes' first challenge is to go in to Manchester and bridge the gap between him and Rooney. If that is feasible or not depends on his personality.... we will see. It will be interesting to see how that will be handled.

There is no denying that Rooney is a world-class player that could help any squad. If he truly does become available this summer, Arsenal should try to do what it takes to get him.

Gonzalo Higuain

After a long career with Real Madrid, Gonzalo Higuain is on his way out. The talented forward scored 16 goals in La Liga this past season, which ranked eighth in the league.

Despite this success, he is looking to move. According to John Cross of Mirror Football, Higuain recently stated, "Real Madrid know my choice. It is up to them but I need a change of club. I hope it is resolved to stop too many rumours."

This is good news for all the clubs targeting the forward this summer. The problem is that there are a bunch of these organizations.

Besides Arsenal, Juventus will be one of the top contenders for the Argentine's services. Both sides are capable of providing the money for the player, which will probably mean it comes down to which is the better fit for Higuain.

Clement Grenier

If Arsenal decides to go for a less-proven player, Clement Grenier is one of the best potential options.

The 22-year-old Lyon midfielder has been scouted by the club, and Wenger likes what he sees. According to The Sun, the manager said, "We are following Grenier. His intelligent play pleases me. He has interesting qualities and reminds me of Samir Nasri."

Nasri is another young French player that Arsenal acquired, although the club will probably hope for a longer run with Grenier.

This past season, the youngster totaled seven goals and six assists in 28 league matches. His vision and passing ability could make him a useful addition on the offensive end.

Of course, it will not be too easy to bring him from his current squad. The Lyon manager is doing his best to convince Grenier to avoid a transfer, according to ESPN.

Still, the lure of playing in the EPL might be too great for the player to pass up.
