Sunday was a huge day for Class of 2014 Ohio State commits Kyle Berger, Damon Webb and Dylan Thompson. All three performed at the Nike Football Training camp held in Columbus, where they impressed at their respective position positions—all coming away with invites to The Opening camp held over the summer. Typically, The Opening is one of the more prestigious camps in America, and the future Buckeyes are off to a great start when it comes to grabbing invites.

Berger, the camp MVP for the linebackers, pledged his allegiance to the Buckeyes in April. The Cleveland native is the No. 2 outside linebacker according to Scout.com.  At 6’2", Berger has the frame to add bulk and should be a force when he arrives on campus next season. Meanwhile, he’ll keep improving over the summer and should have a chance to make a splash at the opening. No, combines don’t mean everything, and this kid is a straight gamer—there’s no doubting that. However, if Berger can keep putting on fantastic shows at combine events, his name will start to be mentioned more often as arguably the top linebacker in the country.

Ohio State has added firepower to its secondary over the last two recruiting classes, and this year isn’t any different. Webb proved on Sunday that he, like Berger, should be around the top of his position group around the country. Currently, Webb sits as the No. 6 cornerback on Scout.com, but he’ll have a chance to boost that ranking when The Opening comes around. Webb’s recruitment was an interesting one in the sense that his commitment came from almost out of nowhere.  His high school (Cass Tech) has a strong pipeline to Michigan, but Ohio State was able to grab a great one in enemy territory.

Finally, Thompson proved his strength on the defensive line as well. Thompson hails from Illinois and is 6’5", 265 pounds.  Listed as a defensive end, he could move inside when he arrives in Columbus. Thompson is a player that brings it every single play, as you will rarely see him take a play off. His name should start to blow up more if he is able to have a strong showing during The Opening.

There’s plenty to gain with all these current Buckeye commits headed to The Opening over the summer. Most importantly, they will be surrounded with some of the best talent in the country. While there, there’s no doubt that Berger, Webb and Thompson will be going after the big names—trying to persuade them to be Buckeyes, or at the very least take a visit. More Buckeye names could pop up in the future with invites to the prestigious event, but for now, Kyle Berger, Damon Webb and Dylan Thompson are highlighting this Ohio State class.
