The radar gun showed 99 mph on a couple of fastballs Jose Fernandez fired in the first inning Monday, including one that fanned Evan Longoria to end the frame. What it showed Marlins manager Mike Redmond, though, was that the 20-year-old rookie right-hander was trying to do too much in his homecoming. The second inning was unfortunate proof.
