The Big Ten Network wasn't built in a day. It required significant initial investment from the Big Ten and its partner, Fox Sports, to get the channel off the ground in 2007, then prolonged, sometimes-bitter negotiations with major cable providers to get the channel to a point of market saturation that could benefit Big Ten schools.
