Breaking news from Wembley Stadium prior to the Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. According to multiple sources on and around the pitch, star Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger injured himself in pre-match warmups after running into teammate Mario Mandzukic.
Worry for Bayern. Reports that Mandzukic caught Schweinsteiger's ankle while they were warming up. Schweini went back to dressing room.— Ciarán Fahey (@cfaheyAP) May 25, 2013
But Fahey and the Associated Press quickly updated Schweini's status:
Schweinsteiger's on the pitch. Seems fine.— Ciarán Fahey (@cfaheyAP) May 25, 2013
Losing a player of Schweinsteiger’s stature would have been a huge loss for Bayern, but he is back up and walking, and that there’s no reason to think he won’t be more or less at 100 percent for Jupp Heynckes.
Again, Schweinsteiger ambled out onto the pitch with the rest of Bayern's starting lineup, so all systems are go for the 28-year-old.
