How many chances does one team get during the season?

Barcelona has had so many chances to catch Real Madrid this season in La Liga, but every time Los Blancos have stumbled so has Barça.

This week was yet another example of the Catalans disintegrating season. 

On Saturday Madrid drew away at Mallorca and then on Sunday second place Villareal stumbled against Sevilla, losing 2-0, but like they have all season Barça could not take advantage, tying Getafe.

During the game Barcelona was frustrated by the same Getafe defense that held Bayern Munich to one goal last week, but the Catalans were just plan unlucky, hitting the post three times.

Sure some of the blame can go to bad luck but when things are going poorly, as they are for Barcelona, those plays never seem to go your way.

Up until this weekend, Barça and Villareal had a chance in La Liga but neither team seems interested in catching Madrid, and with only seven league games remaining it seems inevitable that Los Blancos will capture their second consecutive title.

The skill level of Barcelona's players is far superior to what they have shown of late this season. 

If things do not go differently in the Champions League, then boss Frank Rijkaard will not be enjoying the beauty of Cataluña next season.
