Real Madrid will be looking to make several changes to their roster following their disappointing and trophy-less year. But not all the changes should involve bringing in superstars.

The first item on Madrid's agenda should be to get rid of the players the team no longer needs.

Here are some who Real Madrid should sell.

Everyone loves Kaka. He is a very likable player, and fans from around the world root for him. But since coming to Madrid, Kaka is no longer the player he once was.

Once touted and prized as one of the best footballers in the world, the Brazilian has been a shadow of himself for Los Blancos.

The best thing Florentino Perez can do for Kaka is send him to a team that will play him and get him back into top form.

He has shown flashes of the brilliant player he once was, but the lack of playing time has not helped.

Frank Tigani of reported earlier this month that Zico, the Brazilian legend, told Esporte Interativo that he wants Kaka to return to Brazil and play for one of the teams there.

He believes this will help Kaka return to his once great form and make him a national team regular again.

Pepe is being linked with a move to Manchester CityAccording to The Daily Mail, future Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen on signing the defender.

The asking price is said to be around £20 million.

Pepe would not be a major loss for the team. With young French star Raphael Varane proving himself on the field over this past season, the team can easily fill the void the Portuguese will leave.

Varane can handle the position and should be a consistent starter come next season.

Pepe is most likely aware of this and will be looking for a way out so he can get consistent playing time elsewhere.

Gonzalo Higuain or Karim Benzema

Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema are great players, but having them both on the team is not productive.

Both players can be a starter anywhere else, and with younger forwards like Alvaro Morata and Jose Callejon available, Madrid can afford to sell one of the star strikers.

But whom will it be?

Comparatively, the two stack up well against each other, which is probably why no one ever really knows who will be starting what game.

In La Liga this season, Benzema had 10 goals and 10 assists in his 29 matches. Higuain, meanwhile, played in 26 matches, scored 14 goals and assisted on another five.

Both Higuain and Benzema are wanted men in Europe.

According to Jeremy Wilson of The Telegraph, Arsene Wenger is very interested in Higuain, whose transfer fee is said to be £19 million.

Neil Custis and Phil Thomas of The Sun are reporting that Manchester United is keen on Benzema since Wayne Rooney looks to be on his way out of Old Trafford.

The team is supposedly preparing a £30 million bid.

Madrid can afford to lose one of the players, but it must decide which one is no longer worth it. Losing both players this summer is not an option.
