As expected, Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva has picked up his $8.5-million option for next season. He left little doubt in the middle of this past season. “It's obvious what I'm going to do,” Villanueva said shortly before the trade deadline. “Would you let that money go?” Villanueva, 28, is coming off his fourth season with the Pistons where he averaged 6.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. He started the season garnering little playing time, but was a part of the second unit that briefly energized the team in December.
