Full time result from Anfield
Liverpool 1 (Coutinho)
MOTM: Philippe Coutinho
Philippe Coutinho proved the difference in this game with his first-half goal, drilled into the bottom corner from 25 yards after Jordon Ibe's run and lay off. Liverpool dominated the entire match but didn't add to their tally of goals, despite the best efforts from especially Carragher who hit the post with a fizzing drive from range.
QPR go down, relegated and bottom of the table, after a miserable season, while Liverpool finish in seventh position in Brendan Rodgers' debut campaign in charge.
There will be much work for him to do over the summer, but the second half of the season will give him hope that further success can be had with the right additions.
A winning end to the season for Liverpool, and a winning end to his career for Jamie Carragher. The players disappear down the tunnel, but the Reds will be back out for their end-of-season lap around the Anfield pitch shortly.
Full time at Anfield
Liverpool 1 QPR 0
90+3'—QPR do work the ball into the box but Jamie Mackie curls his effort well wide. Reina will clear the goal kick downfield...and that might be that for 2012-13.
90+2'—QPR mounting a final attack. Johnson clears for a throw-in but the pressure is still up the Liverpool end. Skrtel gets in a tackle and there will be one more chance to put the ball into the area.
Three minutes of added time to be played
You'll Never Walk Alone rings out around Anfield for the final time this season.
90'—Into the final moments of the campaign at Anfield. Johnson continues to work magic in attack down the right, but theres still no end product from the shooting. At the other end, Townsend curls miles over the bar. Poor again from QPR today.
89'—Borini wins the ball once, twice, and finally gets a shot away, but it's blocked once more. The second goal just won't come for Liverpool.
87'—Back to those remaining on the field, Suso and Sturridge link up on the edge of the box but another shot flies wide of the post.
Liverpool substitute: Sebastian Coates replaces Jamie Carragher
And so comes the ending of a great, trophy-laden career.
84'—Forward comes Carragher for another corner, but it's dreadful from Downing and cleared at the first post. Mere minutes left of his 737th appearance, the second-highest all-time for Liverpool.
83'—The Reds almost get themselves into a muddle as Skrtel passes across goal with Reina coming out for the ball. Works out fine though, and they clear.
25 shots to eight in favour of Liverpool. 19-3 on target.
82'—Another save forced from Rob Green, who has to push Jose Enrique's fierce drive up into the air from 20 yards.
81'—Suso twists and turns his way past a defender and his low cross is only beaten out as far as Downing—who hits his shot straight at Traore. Liverpool should be about eight-nil up here.
QPR sub: Hoilett on for Park.
79'—Borini plays in Sturridge over the top of the QPR defence and the striker fails to shoot, or quickly pass to Suso, and eventually is crowded out. Chance lost.
78'—Johnson quickly throws the ball into play and Henderson's cross ends up at the feet of Suso on the edge of the box, but his shot is saved down low by Green.
77'—Into the final quarter of an hour of the season now, and of Jamie Carragher's career. Liverpool still lead here by 1-0.
75'—Anyone suspect the final home sub might be for Carragher to make way?
Liverpool sub: Coutinho off, Suso on.
Another game, another great performance from the Brazilian. On comes Suso for an impressive 20th appearance of the season.
73'—Downing cuts back the ball to the edge of the area and though it's behind Sturridge, Borini runs onto it to shoot from 20 yards—but it's another blocked shot.
71'—Andros Townsend is booked for abusive language toward the officials. He wanted a free kick, but you don't generally get them when you're cleanly tackled.
QPR sub: Mackie on for Zamora.
70'—A third penalty appeal for handball for Liverpool, and a third one waved away by referee Martin Atkinson. This one is from a Downing shot which is blocked inside the box.
