Phillies' Minor League Notebook: Wes Helms Traded to Marlins

Wes Helms was traded to the Florida Marlins for cash considerations or a player to be named later.

Helms was designated for assignment on Wednesday to make room for Rudy Seanez. Helms played for the Marlins in 2006 before being signed by the Phillies as a free agent prior to the 2007 season.

LHP Cole Hamels takes on RHP Bronson Arroyo in the series finale on Monday afternoon, before the Phils start a three-game series against the Mets on Tuesday at Shea.

The Lakewood BlueClaws lost the finale of a four-game series to the Lake County Captains, 5-1. Jacob Diekman took the loss for the BlueClaws, allowing four earned runs in three and a third innings pitched.

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs lost the finale of a four-game series to the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees 3-2. Lehigh Valley fell to 0-4 and continues to look for the first win in franchise history.

J.D. Durbin took the loss and his ERA is now at 8.10. Durbin allowed seven base runners and three earned runs in three and a third innings pitched.

The Clearwater Threshers had their game with the Lakeland Tigers suspended due to rain in the top of the first inning. When play is resumed, the Threshers will hold a 2-0 lead.

The Reading Phillies lost their series finale with the Altoona Curve, 3-2.

William Savage took a blown save and the loss, giving up two earned runs in his two innings of work. Reading starter Fabio Castro pitched well in his first start of the season, allowing one earned run over five innings.

  1. I don't know what the Fish are going to be giving up (if anything other than cash) for him, so it looks like it could be a win-win deal for both teams involved.
