After last night's disappointing performance against a tough Kansas team, it leaves me asking myself what do I do now?

I was ready to watch UNC win the National Championship on Monday and have all the bragging rights a fan could ask for, until the start of next season.

From the start of the game it just seemed that Kansas wanted it more.  Ty Lawson was turning the ball over at an alarming rate as was the rest of the team.  Every three the Jayhawks threw up found its home through the net, and UNC's transition game was nowhere to be seen.

So, now I must ask again:  What am I going to do now?

If any of you have read my profile you would see the other teams I am a fan of.

We'll start with the Minnesota Timberwolves. They're current record of 19-56 doesn't give us fans much to cheer for.  I have been excited to watch the NBA draft since December this season.

Now we have the Minnesota Twins.  I know the season is very young but I don't know how optimistic to be with the unbelievably stacked AL Central this season.  Cleveland and Detroit will be battling for the division all year with the White Sox right on their heels.   Needless to say, the Twins prospects for the playoffs this year are not looking too bright.

The Minnesota Vikings are the next team I have to look forward too.  The Vikes finished the season 8-8 and just missed the playoffs.  Next season will depend on the development of basically one man, T-Jack.  If he comes around, it could be a magical year for Minnesota.

If not, they will be again on the outside looking in.

Now on to my favorite sports team at any level:  The Miami Hurricanes.  The 'Canes have the best recruiting class in the country look like a team ready to make some noise again.  They aren't at the level of a Georgia just yet but they are on the right path.

So, for now I will have watch the lifeless Timberwolves and rebuilding Twins until Brad Nessler, Lee Corso, and Kirk Herbstreit dust off their headsets and Saturday afternoon's have meaning once again.

  1. Realize Roy Williams is a joke and won despite his coaching in 2005. Did not hurt he had a weak Michigan State and overrated Illinois team in the final doue in 2005.

  2. I wouldn't say Illinois was overrated that year. They lost one game during the entire regular season and beat Arizona and Louisville just to get to the championship game. I wasn't particularly impressed with Roy's coaching last night but he is a great coach. I just don't get how you can watch you're team get down by 28 and not call one time out! I would've called one once they got down ten just to calm them down and get their heads on straight. I think Roy underestimated Kansas and just expected his boys to play out of it without making an adjustment. UNC's run to the Final Four was effortless for the most part Roy didn't have to do much in game adjustments and probably though his team would get themselves out of it.

  3. UNC was loaded this year and their best non-conference games were Kent State (pre-tournament) or Davidson (post tournament). Pathetic!

We have seen this from Roy for years. He can beat the patsies but is a horrid coach. He cuts it to 4 and takes out the starters. In Duke game 1, he lets the Blue Devils get a mismatch where K subbed and Tyler was guarding DMarc at half court. That pretty much put the game away. In Duke 2, he almost pissed the game away.

What is a problem. Hansbrough goes to the line and gets away with throwing his body around in the ACC. Newsflash, this does not happen against other conferences. When Tyler is not going to the line, what is UNC to do?

I garuntee Roy does not win another championship.

    1. You must be a UNC-hater/Kansas fan. You're mad that Roy didn't win a championship with Kansas so when he won one with UNC you now are going to cut him down at all costs.

  4. I cannot understand why year in and out UNC has some of the best talent in men's and women's basketball but continue to choke.

What has Williams done to show he is a good coach. Rebuild a team, thats a no. Win a national championship, ok with another coach's players. And need I remind you the likes of Rollie Massimino, Steve Fisher, and Nolan Richardson have one.

If Bob McKillop had this squad, they would not have lost one ballgame.

That and Roy needs to stop obsessing with Duke.

Here is the big question: How did the big bad team of 2005 ever lose to Duke once (would have been twice if the officials had a clue)?

    1. It's a rivalry game, most great rivalries always have close games and Duke had a damn good team that year. They were also a number 1 seed so it's not like they lost to a Duke team in a down year. You're right though, Roy Williams isn't a good coach at all.

One national championship, 2 ACC tournament championships, three ACC regular season championships, nine Big 12 regular season championships, four Big 12 tournament championships, 2 AP coach of the year awards, 1 Naismith college coach of the year, and 1 Henry Iba Award. Oh yeah, and he was inducted into the basketball hall of fame in 2007. But by all means you are right, he's a horrible coach and should never be allowed to coach again.

  5. It's hard to feel too sorry for Tar Heel fans.....you just made the Final Four, you recently won a national championship, and will most likely be a major contender for years to come.

    1. I'm not looking for sympathy. The point of this was just to point out that I don't have much to watch now until college football season. Even though the season would be over tomorrow, at least I would have bragging rights had UNC won.

  6. some of you guys are morons. Roy overrated? Doesnt he have the highest winning percentage of any active coach or something like that? Isnt he a hall of famer? I guess you guys know something hall of fame voters don't. 6 final fours. There is a reason Bob McKillop has been at Davidson 19 years. I'm not saying he's a a bad coach, in fact, you have to be a pretty damn good coach to be anywhere for 19 years, but the fact is a.) if he were really such a great coach, he would have moved on to a bigger job by now, and b.) you guys never heard of him until last year or this year, when he got a special once-in-a-lifetime player in stephan curry, and that's why they are as good as they are. Roy is an elite coach. The only other active coaches in his league are coach K and Pitino.

    1. I agree Adam. I think that Roy is an excellent coach, one of the top 5, if not top 3, coaches in all of NCAA basketball. His record speaks for itself.

If anyone wants to point to a weak schedule or something like that, then just ask yourself how other coaches aren't just running over the Heels? I'm interested to see what happens next year, UNC should be loaded.

Roy must have simply underestimated the ability Kansas has to play defensively. That was as brilliant a defensive game as I can ever recall between too schools at that level! Trust me though, Roy will learn from this and be back with a vengeful attack next year.

And Marcus, I feel for you. Minnesota is basically a black hole for sports teams right now. And as for the Canes, they may be turning things around, but only time will tell. College football is becoming more and more competitive, and the talent is stretching thin at traditional power houses.

  7. You know, boys, Kansas is a number one seed too. It's not as if they were some patsy, or even an average team. Sometimes in sport you just get your butt handed to you; and, much to my dismay, North Carolina did on Saturday night. A lot of second-guessing can be done, but they just got beat. Nothing to do but learn from the game, and go about preparing for next season.

Oh, and kudos for giving props to the UGA football team. Being a Bulldog myself, it's nice to get some recognition from fans of other conferences. And I can safely and fully encourage your 'Canes, as we are not slated to play each other next season.

    1. Well I have to give credit where it's due. I would pick Georgia to win the BCS National Championship next year but the whole reason I can't is because it's the BCS. Georgia proved to all the Hawaii lovers that they weren't a national contender by pounding them in their bowl game. If Georgia is placed in the National Championship game, which they like will be, they will win it in my opinion. I think the 'Canes are two years away from being at that national level.

  8. People saying Roy is a top coach because of his winning percentage is like asserting John Wooden is the best coach because he has 10 championships (I am not saying he is or isnt the best coach in NCAA history, but basing the whole argument on that fact alone is asanine. The teams back east had to scrap and claw to get to the final four. Out west when you played in you home region. UCLA was beating the dumb deaf and blind to get to the final four).

Anyways, the deck was stacked for Roy when he was given the job at Kansas and it was stacked when he went to UNC. I would agree he is a great recruiter. But, it is not hard to win .800 of your games when he gets talent like he has.

Other coaches, like Mike Krzyzewski, had to build from the ground up.

  9. If you take the Army years and the first three years at Duke off (I took them off because Foster left the cupboard empty)

    K is 692-161 (.811)

Roy, taking over for a national championship team at Kansas, is 560-134 (807).

And K didnt have the most protected player in ACC history (Hansbrough)

    1. so basically what you're saying is, coach K has a .04 winning percentage better than roy, IF YOU TAKE OFF SEVERAL YEARS OF HIS COACHING RESUME. Great argument.

And I dont deny Hansbrough is protected, but you have to admit he gets beaten on more than anyone else. And he isnt any more protected than Leattener was in his day. Or JJ Redick.

And I know what you're already thinking: Roys first job was at Kansas, and K's was at Army, I understand the talent is better at Kansas, but it's not like Army was playing in the Big 12, or Big 8 or whatever it was then. Army could have still had a great record.

Either way, I said coach K is in the same league.

And the "basing the whole argument on that fact alone (winning percentage) is asanine" is another terrible point considering I also mentioned his 6 final fours and his being in the hall of fame.

  10. Thank you Adam for pointing out Christian Laettner and JJ Redick. People who say that about Hansbrough seemed to forget those two babied Dukies. Hansbrough gets to the free throw line by taking the ball inside and going up against 2-3 defenders each time, I'm positive there is contact in the lane when he goes up to score. People say he throws his body around, well then step in and take a charge. If he's as out of control as everyone says he is he should be an easy player to guard. Just step up and take a charge then.

  11. Thank you Adam for pointing out Christian Laettner and JJ Redick. People who say that about Hansbrough seemed to forget those two babied Dukies. 12. How many times has Hansbrough initiated the contact and it was called a defensive foul? How many times did he travel with no call?

As for Redick getting calls, yeah he did, but how many times was he hand-checked, poked, prodded and flat out grabbed and no foul was called. At the end of the season, he had to get new jerseys because they were so stretched out.

If you analyze game after game, Williams is outcoached. 2005 Duke, 2008 Duke, 2008 Kansas (It was the battle of two inept coaches), 2007 Georgetown, 1997 when he coached at Kansas, 2006 George Mason...

    1. You're just a UNC hater so it doesn't matter what we say. As far as being outcoahed in these Duke games, you are a retard. Rivalry games always are competitive no matter what team is supposed to win. He didn't get outcoached in the game they lost to Duke, he was without an All-American level point guard in Ty Lawson and the main reason they lost that game is because of turnovers and lack of transition play which is what Lawson would've helped with.

2005 Duke they lost by one point on the Road to a Duke team that was ranked as high as number 2 in the country that season. If David Noel wouldn't have dribbled the ball off his foot they probably would've won that game.

The 2007 Georgetown game never should've gone to overtime because Jeff Greens foot slid about 2 feet before he took the game tying shot. 2008 Kansas they just ran into a Kansas team playing insane defense and they couldn't miss a shot the first 15 minutes of the game. I don't think Kansas would have won that game had they not been that on fire to start the game.

The 2006 George Mason loss was a fluke and it's not like they were the only team to lose to them that year in the tournament.

Besides, that was the year after they lost 5 starters and first two guys off the bench. The fact they were still competitive and he was able to beat Duke at HOME on SENIOR NIGHT for JJ REDICK really shows how good of a coach he is too. The almighty coach K who's team had a number 1 seed didn't make it out of the Sweet 16 round either. Sure, they didn't lose to George Mason but they were expected to make it to the Final Four that year and they choked just like they have every year since 2001. The last good job Coach K did was 2001 and his team was so stacked that year it wouldnt've mattered who coached that team.

Roy Williams I can't believe you are defending JJ Redick after you rip into Hansbrough. Cry me a river he was getting hand check and poked, thats not a foul.

    2. Just because one team loses doesn't necessarily mean they were outcoached. The players have something to do with it. They split this year. So does that mean as of the first matchup, coach K was the better coach, and after the 2nd matchup, Roy is the better coach? Of course not.

  13. One more thing about anyone saying UNC "chokes". Lets look at the last 4 seasons and see who are the real choke artists.
    2008
UNC (1 seed)- lost in the final four to eventual champion kansas
Duke 2 seed)- lost in the second round to West Virigina after a 1 point win against 15 seed Belmont
    2007
UNC (1 seed) - lost in the elite eight to Georgetown
Duke (6 seed) - lost in the FIRST ROUND to Virginia Commonwealth
    2006
UNC - 3 seed - lost in the second round to george mason
DUKE - 1 seed - lost in the sweet 16 to George Mason (11 seed went on to final four)
    2005
UNC - 1 seed - Won the national championship
DUKE - 1 seed - lost in the sweet 16 to michigan state (5 seed)

  14. Just keep thinking Roy Williams is a good coach...

    1. I don't think he's a good coach. I know he's the best coach in the country right now.

  15. Well, the Tigers and Indians seem to be jumping over themselves for the last spot in the division, so all hope might not be lost!
