But even the Rays manager couldn't have expected it to play out like it did. Three outs away from a homestand-ending victory, Rays closer Fernando Rodney walked the bases loaded in the ninth before allowing a bases-clearing double by Will Middlebrooks in a 4-3 loss to the Red Sox in front of 16,055 at Tropicana Field.
