The Five WrestleMania Matches That Entertained Me Most
Wrestlemania is the biggest pay-per-view of pro wrestling ever.
Many historical matches have taken place in this event from 1985 to 2009. In this article, I have mentioned five matches that has entertained me most.
All these matches had a huge applause from the fans.
These matches somewhat changed the landscape of WWE forever.
So readers, let's recap those matches....
5. Hulk Hogan defeated Andre the Giant for the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania III
Many people think that this match was useless. But, I disagree. There are several reasons for why I like this match.
Firstly, Andre was an ally of Hogan. But, he betrayed Hogan and became jealous of Hogan's WWE title. Andre then challenged Hogan to a match at Wrestlemania which Hogan accepted.
The match was also a classic one. Two minutes into the match, Hogan wanted to scoop slam Andre but fell due to the weight of Andre.
The action took back and forth in the ring until Hogan body slammed a 540 pound Andre! Nobody will forget that moment... Hogan then applied the Leg drop and pinned Andre to win the match.
After the match, the whole Silverdome fans gave a standing ovation to Hogan.
4. Bret Hart defeated Yokozuna for the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania X
This match was really unpredictable! Before his WWF Championship match, Bret"The Hitman" Hart was attacked by his brother, Owen hart and therefore had to face him in a singles match.
Bret not only lost the match but also injured his leg severely.
Before the Championship match against Yokozuna, Bret was stammering. From the beginning of the match, Yokozuna focused on Bret's leg and therefore, increased the pressure on Bret greatly.
After those vicious attacks, Yokozuna wanted to finish the match by applying the Banzai drop. But he a lost his balance and fell! Bret then quickly pinned him to win the WWF Championship.
I like this match because Bret did extremely well. Even having his leg injured, he once tried to apply the Sharpshooter! The ending was also shocking when Yokozuna lost his balance and fell making Bret the winner in the process....
3. Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart in a 60 Minute Iron Man Match for the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania XII
"1 hour, 60 minutes, 3600 seconds" these mean only one thing in the terminology of pro wrestling- the Iron Man match.
The 1st Iron Man match was held at Wrestlemania XII between Bret Hart and the HBK, Shawn Michaels. In 1995, Shawn Michaels won the Royal Rumble and won the chance of facing off against then WWF champion, Bret Hart.
The match was then made an Iron Man match by WWF President, Jack Tuney.
In the first 6o minutes of the match, no pin fall or submission was made. Hart locked the Sharpshooter on Michaels a few seconds before the time limit. But Michaels did not tap out. So, Hart as the match was drawn, was walking away with the belt.
But, he was stopped and told that the match would go to sudden death. At Sudden death, Michaels superkicked Hart and pinned him to win his first WWF title.
Really, this match is one of the best match in the history of pro wrestling. I liked this match due to the athletic moves of both the wrestlers and Michaels's performance.
Michaels started gaining popularity after Wrestlemania XII.
2. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin defeated The Rock in a No Disqualification match for the WWF Championahip at Wrestlemania X-Seven
Stone Cold Steve Austin won the 2001 Royal Rumble to face then WWF Champ The Rock at Wrestlemania X7 in a No Disqualification.
This Wrestlemania marked the first time two wrestlers main evented any Wrestlemania twice, the first time at Wrestlemania XV.
This match was also one of the best matches in WWE due to the intense rivalry between the Rock and Steve Austin during the Attitude Era. I liked the match mainly due to the shocking end it had.
During the match, Rock and Steve Austin made the AstroDome fans go wild after spilling the fight outside the ring and into the crowd. Both the wrestlers bled immensely after hitting each other with ring bell. They also gave each other multiple chair shots.
When Rock had given the People's Elbow to Austin and went for the pin, Vince McMahon came in and pulled the Rock away. He handed Austin a chair and making Steve Austin a heel in the process.
Steve Austin hit the Rock with the chair and pinned him to be the new WWF champion.
The PPV went off the air as the new champion and the chairman were shaking their hands and sharing beers.
Many wrestling fans were shocked to see such an action of Steve Austin to make his arch rival Mr McMahon his friend.
The Rock would gain the revenge of this defeat at Wrestlemania XIX after defeating Steve Austin and making the history of main eventing Wrestlemania highest time with Steve Austin—thrice.
The rivalry of Rock and Steve Austin is one of the most heated one in the history of Wrestlemania..
1. The Rock defeated Hollywood Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania X8
Probably, the best match in the history of pro wrestling between "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and the Rock. This match was dubbed as "Icon vs Icon".
During the Attitude Era, Rock was on top of his business. Hulk Hogan on the other hand, was the best wrestler of WWE during that time. When these people met each other on the grandest stage of all, Wrestlemania, all the WWE fans were too much eager to see them fight and determine who the best was.
From the starting of this epic battle, the fans cheered for both of them. Both of them gave their heart and soul to win this match. And at last, the Rock won the match after two Rock Bottoms and a People's Elbow.
After the match, the Rock and Hulk Hogan shook hands showing sportsmanship.
I liked this match and it is my best wrestling match ever watched. Both Rock and Hogan were my favorite. And from the start of the match, they proved why they were two of the best icons in WWE.
And at the end of this epic battle, the Rock proved to the fans once again why he was on top of the company during that time.
So readers, I think you have the read of some of the best matches of Wrestlemania and relived those moments once again...
