World Football Idiot of the Week

Will Tidey@willtideySenior Manager, GlobalMay 13, 2013

The straightforward option would have been to hand this week’s award to the mindless Roma fans who racially abused Mario Balotelli, but let’s leave their punishment to the authorities.

Let’s use this award for matters concerned with the game itself, not those who attempt to undermine it.

I’ve chosen Manchester City’s Pablo Zabaleta, whose red card in the FA Cup Final helped hand victory to Wigan and may have finalized the departure of City manager Roberto Mancini.

Callum McManaman was running away from goal when Zabaleta, already on a yellow card, lunged in recklessly. It was a tackle he didn’t need to make and it cost his team badly.

Please submit your suggestions for next week’s idiot in the comment section below.
