On May 19th, WWE Extreme Rules will be a true test for Dolph Ziggler.

The World Heavyweight champion will square off against Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger in a ladder match on pay-per-view. It will be Ziggler’s first event as champion.

However, the stakes have become higher due to a serious injury.

The WWE revealed Ziggler suffered a concussion on the May 10th taping of SmackDown. Ziggler told WWE.com he lost two days of his memory. He has no recollection of this past Monday and Tuesday.

Ziggler said he had suffered concussions before, but he told WWE.com this was the worst he's suffered yet.

Ziggler said, “I was told I interfered in a match and tried to get my hands on a ladder. When I bent over to grab it, Jack Swagger kicked me in the head.”

Concussion awareness has increased in the past year in every sport. The WWE took notice of concussions when they outlawed chair shots to the head. The company is monitoring Ziggler’s situation very carefully.

Ziggler stated in the interview he looks to be cleared for Extreme Rules. If that’s the case, don’t expect the defending world champion to slow down.

Ziggler has become one of the WWE’s top performers by bringing his fast-paced, in-ring style to the ring against top opponents. He has excelled in encounters over the past few years with CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Chris Jericho, Kofi Kingston, Del Rio and Swagger.

The champion is an excellent ring worker, and his crowning achievement as champion makes him the man. With an injury in tow, this makes Ziggler’s title defense all the more important.

The focus is on him for the first time. In this match, there’s no one overshadowing him, no one bigger than him in stature. The focus is on the World Heavyweight champion, where it should be.

Dolph Ziggler will face a true test at Extreme Rules, where he will be the focal point. Even with an injury, expect the defending champion to pass with flying colors and steal the show once again.
