McCarthy's Gem Wasted
Jennifer Hilderbrand-USA TODAY S

When Diamondbacks starter Brandon McCarthy got the last out of the eighth inning Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies, there was no doubt in his mind he'd come back out for the ninth. After all, he hadn't allowed a run and — just as importantly — he'd thrown only 88 pitches. He also had a fairly easy eighth inning, allowing a hit but then getting a 6-4-3 double play and an inning-ending popout from Philadelphia shortstop Jimmy Rollins.
