Full time result
Fulham 1 (Berbatov)
Liverpool 3 (Sturridge 3)
MOTM: Daniel Sturridge
Full time at the Cottage then, and the PA speaker has to remind the home fans to stay in their seats for an end-of-season lap of honour. The season hasn't ended well for Fulham though, who have now lost six out of their last seven league matches.
For Liverpool though it is a seventh away league win of the season to further lend belief and positivity to a season of transition, though they will definitely now end the campaign in seventh place as well—so there is still an awful lot of work ahead for Brendan Rodgers.
Today was a good game and a good result for the Reds though, without several star players and with a few more youngsters getting another chance to shine, and the first senior hat-trick of Daniel Sturridge's career will be a welcome boost too. He now has scored 10 league goals in 13 games since arriving in January, a more than acceptable strike rate.
Full time whistle at Craven Cottage
Fulham 1 Liverpool 3
90+3'—Final seconds of the game now.
90+1'—Both teams playing out the game now but not much emphasis on attack or creating. Lots of singing from Liverpool fans, lots of leaving early from the home support.
Three minutes to be added on
89'—Into the final minute, and the Liverpool supporters are in fine voice indeed. Carragher is getting plenty of songs aimed his way as time winds down on his contract.
Liverpool sub: Conor Coady on for Philippe Coutinho
This will be only Coady's second game for the Reds and his Premier League debut. His other appearance came in Europe, against Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia.
It's finally 3-1, and it's finally a Sturridge hat-trick. Coutinho sprints into space, lofts a pass through to Sturridge and the striker beats Schwarzer to the ball and lofts it over the top of him, into the back of the net, and that's three goals and three points.
Fuham 1 Liverpool 3
Daniel Sturridge, hat-trick, 85 mins
83'—It's hard, it's low—and it's gratefully saved straight into his arms and chest by Pepe Reina.
83'—Riise hasn't scored yet for Fulham. He's now going to take a free kick, 25 yards from goal, a minute after coming on as sub.
81'—A corner is swung out to Jose Enrique on the edge of the box, but his shot is taken off balance and always bends away from goal. Former Liverpool player coming on now, to good applause from both teams.
Fulham sub: John Arne Riise on for Giorgios Karagounis.
79'—GREAT CHANCE AGAIN! Liverpool could be about six goals up here. Sturridge flicks a pass through and Borini is one-on-one—but then Schwarzer pulls off another top stop. Then a moment later Downing is played in, but he lacks confidence to shoot on his right foot and delays, before hitting it straight at the keeper.
Top saves from the Aussie keeper, but Liverpool have to put these chances in the back of the net.
78'—OFF THE POST! Great run from Borini who cuts in off the left and bends his shot around defender and goalkeeper, but then it crashes back off the post and out on the far side. Great effort.
77'—Coutinho skips infield and shoots hard and low, and it takes a deflection and just whizzes past the near post. Corner to Liverpool, which Petric easily clears. No threat from the Reds off all their corners today—but Jose Enrique quickly puts the ball back in and Henderson flicks the ball over the keeper, but also over the bar. Good run from Henderson.
Liverpool sub: Shelvey off, Fabio Borini on
75'—Double save! Henderson passes straight to Berbatov who turns and shoots, and forces Reina into a low save. From the corner, Hughes heads at the far post and Reina gets down again really well to fingertip the ball wide for a second corner. Liverpool clear this one in more routine fashion and Enoh blazes over the bar.
73'—Coates jumps around the front of Petric as he tries to win the ball, but only fouls the forward in a silly area. No need to make that challenge. It was a very Martin Skrtel-esque challenge, you have to say.
71'—How aren't Liverpool clear here? Shelvey now has the latest chance to finish things off, chesting the ball down in space at the far post, but then his foot slips from under him and by the time he recovers he's been closed down, and can only poke his shot wide. The goal was gaping just half a second earlier.
70'—Liverpool pressing hard for a killer third. Johnson has a chance to cross but checks back, and then Henderson's ball to Jose Enrique opens space up on the opposite flank, but the left-back can't control the ball.
Fulham sub: Kacaniklic off, Mladen Petric on.
68'—GREAT CHANCE. Liverpool should be 3-1 ahead, and Sturridge should have an assist. Instead, after sprinting 40 yards into space down that right channel again, the striker opts to shoot and Schwarzer again saves, leaving Shelvey and Coutinho furious, alone in the middle, at not receiving the pass.
67'—That's Liverpool's best-ever season in terms of away goals scored, then. Sturridge's brace today has ensured that. Fulham meanwhile are searching out some sort of response but Liverpool getting a lot of space on the break.
64'—Hat-trick chance! Sturridge wins the ball off Hangeland and bears down on goal for his first Liverpool treble, but Schwarzer is this time quickly off his line and makes a block. Great chance.
Fulham not happy, Liverpool are. After that penalty shout, Coates and Kacaniklic collide and Fulham want a foul on the edge of the box. The referee gives nothing, Liverpool attack and when Coutinho's shot is deflected to the feet of Sturridge, he takes one touch then slots home inside the far post. Cool finish, and the Reds are ahead.
