Espanyol vs. Real Madrid: La Liga Live Coverage
Real Madrid needed a win to keep their La Liga hopes alive. But it would not be so as Espanyol held on for a 1-1 draw in Catalonia.
Stuani opened up the scoring in the first half through a wonderful corner kick play. The home side impressed by pressing high up the pitch, but would not be in control for too long.
Real Madrid brought on Benzema then Ronaldo in the second half which eventually led to a goal from Gonzalo Higuain. At that point it appeared as though Los Blancos would mount a comeback.
Just into extra time, Espanyol was shown a red card and Ronaldo stepped up to take the free kick. Ronaldo sent the shot high and wide and soon the whistle blew to end the night.
With the draw, FC Barcelona officially became the champions of La Liga for the 22nd time. Congratulations to the Catalans and now Real Madrid will set their sights on Copa del Rey glory.
