Brad Lidge was activated from the Disabled List before the game. Rule 5 draft pick Tim Lahey was designated for assignment to make room for Lidge on the roster.
The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs continued the search for the franchise’s first victory after a 7-2 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees. Brian Mazone took the loss for the Iron Pigs after allowing five earned runs in seven innings of work.
The Reading Phillies continued their hot start in the Eastern League, defeating the Altoona Curve 5-2. Greg Golson led the R-Phils offense, going 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored.
The Clearwater Threshers lost to the Lakeland Tigers by a score of 4-3. Antonio Bastardo pitched well, giving up one run in five innings of work. Nathan Johnson pitched after Bastardo and allowed three runs in his two innings of work to collect a blown save and the loss.
The Lakewood BlueClaws picked up their first win of the season in come-from-behind fashion, beating the Lake County Captains, 7-6. A four-run sixth inning put the BlueClaws back in the game and gave them a chance for the win. Walter Tejeda got the win in relief, despite allowing two runs in his one inning of work.
Pitching matchups for the remainder of the Reds series have RHP Brett Myers battling RHP Edinson Volquez on Sunday, and LHP Cole Hamels (0-1) facing off against RHP Bronson Arroyo in the series finale on Monday
